The Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriation has continued its assessment of the 2026 budget proposals of local government councils, with Shira Local Government Area appearing before the committee to defend its proposed estimates.
During the budget defence session, the Deputy Chairman of the council, Hon. Ali Adamu, who represented the Executive Chairman, Babangida Abdullahi Maliya, told the committee that the council’s budget was carefully designed to address key developmental needs and improve the living conditions of residents across the local government.
Hon. Ali Adamu explained that the council had successfully carried out various projects aimed at advancing development in the area, noting that the initiatives were presented before the committee for scrutiny and necessary recommendations.
According to him, the proposed budget places strong emphasis on critical sectors that directly impact the well-being of the people.
“We have prioritized sectors such as healthcare, education and the provision of potable drinking water. These are areas we believe are fundamental to the development of our communities and the improvement of the welfare of our people,” he stated.
The Deputy Chairman further informed the committee that the council’s presentation did not attract any corrections during the session, expressing confidence that the proposal adequately reflects the developmental aspirations of the people of Shira.

The total proposed budget of Shira Local Government Area for the fiscal year stands at N10,005,707,927.00 (Ten billion, five million, seven hundred and seven thousand, nine hundred and twenty-seven naira).
The Executive Chairman of the council, Babangida Abdullahi Maliya, assumed office on 24 May 2025 after emerging victorious in a by-election conducted by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission. The by-election followed the removal of the former chairman, Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his deputy by the legislative council over allegations of misconduct.
The committee is expected to conclude its review of the various local government budget proposals before making its recommendations to the House for further legislative action.
