The Plateau State National Assembly Caucus has paid a solidarity visit to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang following the tragic death of young miners in Zurak community, Wase Local Government Area, and recent violent attacks in parts of the state.
The caucus condoled with the government and people of Plateau State over the miners’ deaths in Wase and the attack on Ratatis community in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin-Ladi LGABarkin-Ladi LGA, which reportedly led to the killing of innocent traders and villagers.
Leader of the caucus and Member representing Shendam/Quan’pan/Mikang Federal Constituency, John Dafaan, described the incidents as unfortunate and painful. He assured the Governor of the caucus’ commitment to collaborate with the state government in addressing recurring security challenges.
On the Zurak mining tragedy, the caucus expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and backed the investigative panel set up by the Federal Government to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and ensure accountability.
The lawmakers also condemned the Barkin-Ladi attacks and the reported obstruction of roads that allegedly contributed to the killings. They urged residents to avoid actions capable of escalating tensions and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible.
Reaffirming their support, the caucus pledged to back legislative and executive measures aimed at ending sporadic attacks in rural communities. They also appealed to religious and traditional leaders to sustain peacebuilding efforts and preserve Plateau’s reputation as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
Responding, Governor Mutfwang appreciated the caucus for the visit, describing it as timely and encouraging. He expressed deep sorrow over the Zurak incident and disclosed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been fully briefed, with necessary steps already initiated to prevent a recurrence.

The Governor condemned recent violent incidents in Buhum of Vwang community, as well as attacks in Kuru, Gyel, Riyom, Kanam, and Ratatis in Barkin-Ladi LGA. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive leadership anchored on peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence.
“Under no circumstances should anyone lose his or her life while traveling on the highway,” the Governor stressed.
He extended sympathies to affected families and called on all citizens of Plateau State to unite against criminality and work collectively toward lasting peace, security, and development.
