The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has convened a State Security Council meeting to assess recent security challenges and reinforce measures aimed at sustaining peace across the state.

The high-level meeting, held on Friday, February 27, 2026, reviewed tragic incidents that resulted in the loss of lives in Barkin-Ladi, Wase, and other affected communities. Security chiefs and senior government officials were in attendance.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Governor Mutfwang commended security agencies for their swift response in containing tensions, noting that their proactive interventions helped prevent further escalation. He, however, directed intensified surveillance and operational activities, particularly in rural areas where isolated skirmishes have been reported.

The Governor condemned the recent killings, describing them as unacceptable and avoidable. He disclosed that two of the incidents involved attacks on commuters, while another occurred in Dorowa, where residents were targeted.
“Every life on the Plateau is sacred. We will not allow criminal elements to undermine our collective peace. Security agencies are on the trail of the perpetrators, and they will be brought to justice,” the Governor stated.

On the recent mining tragedy in Wase, Governor Mutfwang said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, which claimed several lives.
He also issued a stern warning against unauthorized road blockages, stressing that only duly recognized security agencies have the authority to restrict movement when necessary.

“Henceforth, anyone who blocks a highway without authorization will face the full weight of the law. No grievance justifies taking the law into one’s hands,” he warned.
The Governor further emphasized that community leaders would be held accountable for unlawful acts, particularly attacks along highways within their domains.

Dismissing claims that roads in Plateau are unsafe, Mutfwang described such narratives as exaggerated and misleading, accusing some individuals of attempting to tarnish the image of the state through misinformation, especially on social media.
Also speaking, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bassey Ewah, reassured residents that security agencies are working in synergy to apprehend those behind the recent disturbances. He dismissed as false reports alleging the discovery of a corpse in an isolated location.
The meeting was attended by top security and government officials, including the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Eyitayo Oyinlola; Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo; Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel Jatau; Chief of Staff, Hon. Jeremiah Satmark, among others.
