The Bauchi State Government has initiated moves to establish a Mining Institute in Alkaleri as part of efforts to strengthen capacity in the solid minerals sector.
This followed an inspection tour by the Central Working Committee (CWC) to the Nigerian Institute of Mining and Geosciences in Jos to explore possible areas of collaboration.
The proposed institution, to be known as Mining Institute Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS), is aimed at providing specialised training and building skilled manpower for the mining industry.
Speaking during the visit, Director-General of NIMG, Professor Suleiman Bolaji Hassan, said the success of such an institute depends on strong technical expertise, modern facilities and sustained professional input.
He described the initiative as forward-looking and pledged the institute’s support in guiding Bauchi State toward establishing a functional and sustainable mining institution.
The delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources Development, Engineer Ibrahim Mato Suleiman, who reaffirmed government’s commitment to the project.

He said the initiative has the full backing of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Muhammad Maiwada Bello.
According to him, the establishment of the institute aligns with the state’s economic diversification drive and efforts to harness its vast solid mineral resources.
