The Bauchi State Government has commenced a three-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy training for civil servants as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and service delivery in the public sector.
The training, organised by the Office of the Head of Civil Service in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is aimed at equipping participants with digital skills and knowledge required for modern governance.
Declaring the training open, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, described the initiative as a major step toward repositioning the civil service for innovation and responsiveness in the digital age.

He noted that digital transformation has become a necessity, stressing that AI tools would support decision-making, reduce administrative workload, and improve transparency and accountability in government operations.
According to him, the programme is designed to complement, not replace, the human element in governance by enhancing productivity and enabling civil servants to work more efficiently.
In her remarks, the Head of Social and Human Sciences Sector at UNESCO Abuja Office, Ms. Nneka Okafor, said the training forms part of global efforts to promote human-centered and ethical use of artificial intelligence.
She explained that the initiative, supported by the European Union, seeks to build the capacity of civil servants to make informed and responsible decisions in deploying AI systems in governance.
Okafor added that participants would gain knowledge on AI fundamentals, ethical considerations, risks, and opportunities, as well as responsible procurement and implementation of AI technologies in public administration.
Earlier, the Head of Civil Service, Barrister Muhammad Sani Umar, said the training aligns with ongoing reforms to modernise the state’s workforce and transition from traditional methods to digital governance.
He urged participants to take full advantage of the programme, describing them as pioneers expected to drive digital transformation across government institutions.
