The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has presented cheques worth over ₦2.4 billion to families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to personnel welfare.
The presentation, which took place on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, saw a total of 1,075 beneficiaries receive payments under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.
The total sum disbursed stands at ₦2,435,421,584.11, covering multiple policy years including 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, as well as 2024/2025 and 2025/2026. The amount also includes outstanding insurance claims recovered from previous years.
Speaking at the event, the Force Insurance Officer, Lydia Ameh, said the disbursement reflects the resolve of the IGP to prioritize the welfare of officers and their families. She noted that the payments were part of efforts to clear long-standing insurance obligations and ensure prompt settlement of future claims.
In his remarks, IGP Disu described the gesture as a solemn recognition of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. He emphasized that beyond financial assistance, the initiative represents the Force’s enduring responsibility to honour fallen heroes and support their families.
He further assured that measures are being intensified to improve welfare structures, eliminate delays in claims processing, and enhance transparency through the use of modern technology.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its personnel, stressing that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain vital to national peace, security, and stability.
