The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, with support from Global Affairs Canada has donated 45 motorcycles to Bauchi State Government aimed at enhancing maternal and child healthcare delivery, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.

Presenting the motorcycles in Bauchi, the Chief of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, said the intervention was meant to strengthening access to essential health services at the grassroots level.

She explained that many rural communities face challenges such as distance and financial constraints, which limit access to healthcare services for women, children, and adolescents.

According to her, each of the 20 local government areas in the state will receive motorcycles to facilitate outreach services and ensure that vulnerable populations receive timely medical attention.

Dr. Rafique also highlighted that the support forms part of ongoing interventions by Global Affairs Canada through UNICEF, including efforts to improve adolescent reproductive health services in the state.
Receiving the motorcycles, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, appreciate the UNICEF and its partners for the gesture.
He assured that the motorcycles would be effectively monitored and utilize to achieve the intended objective of improving healthcare delivery across the state.
