The Bauchi State Government has announced the rollout of a malaria vaccination campaign across selected health facilities, set to begin Thursday, 4 March 2026.
The initiative targets children under the age of two and represents a major step in combating one of Nigeria’s deadliest childhood diseases.
Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad, Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board, disclosed the plans during a high-level stakeholders’ engagement at the Board’s Conference Hall in Bauchi.
According to him, the First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad, is scheduled to officially flag off the exercise, reinforcing the government’s commitment to protecting children’s health and future.
Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad assured that sufficient doses of the malaria vaccine have been supplied to designated facilities and that health workers have been fully trained to implement the programme safely and efficiently.
He praised development partners and stakeholders for their ongoing collaboration, emphasising that the success of the campaign relies on community involvement and support.

The stakeholders’ engagement also included journalists, religious leaders, and community representatives, who pledged to mobilise parents and sensitise communities to ensure eligible children receive the vaccine.
According to the Primary Health Care Development Board, the campaign aims to vaccinate at least 280,000 children under the age of two across the state, a move expected to significantly reduce infant mortality and improve overall child health outcomes in Bauchi State.
