Health officials in Bauchi State have called for increased awareness on preventive healthcare and the adoption of digital health solutions as part of activities marking the 2026 World Health Day celebration with the theme “Together for health. Stand with science.”
The sensitisation programme, held at Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Sciences, brought together student nurses and health experts to discuss the importance of public health awareness, disease prevention and the role of technology in healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Programme Manager for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health, Amina Balali, said the annual celebration, observed every April 7, serves as a reminder for people to take proactive steps toward protecting their health.
She explained that the day raises awareness on emerging diseases, outbreak response and the importance of seeking timely medical attention at the nearest health facility.
According to her, the interaction with student nurses was aimed at highlighting their critical role in the health system, particularly in community awareness creation, early disease detection, surveillance and referral services.
Balali also urged the students to promote inclusive healthcare by ensuring that persons with disabilities are considered while providing information and care services.
Also speaking, the Head of ICT and Data Management at the State Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ibrahim Bello, delivered a presentation on the fundamentals of e-health and its relevance to modern healthcare delivery.
He described e-health as the use of digital technology to provide healthcare services, stressing that it improves efficiency, reduces costs over time and helps save lives.
Bello said although the deployment of digital health systems requires significant capital investment and stable power supply, the long-term benefits outweigh the initial costs.
He identified resistance to new technology and low digital literacy among some frontline health workers as major challenges to the adoption of e-health systems.
According to him, continuous training and digital literacy programmes are essential to reducing resistance and ensuring the successful deployment of technology-driven healthcare solutions.
