A former member of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Abubakar, who represented the Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a telephone interview with Baushe Times TV, Abubakar, popularly known as Garkuwan Misau, confirmed that he has formally tendered his resignation letter to the party on Friday, March 13, 2026.
According to him, the resignation letter was submitted to his ward chairman in Kukadi/Gundari Ward for proper documentation, while copies were also forwarded to the local government party chairman.
“I officially resigned my membership of the PDP on Friday, March 13, 2026. I submitted my resignation letter to my ward chairman in Kukadi/Gundari for record purposes and copied the local government party chairman. I also personally sent him a text message to Executive chairman Misau local Government hon Salisu Hussain to notify him of my decision, but he has not replied up to this moment,” he said.
Garkuwan Misau stated that his decision to leave the party was based on personal reasons, stressing that he had experienced a lack of inclusion and recognition within the party’s activities in recent years.
“I resigned as a PDP member for personal reasons known to me. One of the challenges I faced was non-inclusiveness and lack of recognition in the affairs of the party,” he explained.
However, he acknowledged that the local government party chairman Hon Abdu Haruna sirko had shown him respect and recognition as a former member of the National Assembly.
The former lawmaker also dismissed allegations from some party members who accused him of anti-party activities during the 2019 general elections.
“Some hypocrites accused me of anti-party activities during the 2019 elections, even though I actively worked for the party’s victory. Unfortunately, when the party lost in Misau Local Government, the blame was shifted to me,” Ahmed said.
Despite his exit from the party, Garkuwan Misau expressed gratitude to members of the PDP, party executives, and stakeholders who supported him throughout his political career.
He specifically appreciated the support he received from the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for the opportunities given to him to serve.
“I sincerely appreciate all PDP members, party executives and stakeholders who gave me the opportunity to represent Misau/Dambam in the National Assembly. I am also grateful for the chance to serve as a Executive local government chairman of Misau LG and hold other political appointments,” he added.
Political observers say the defection of Garkuwan Misau to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could reshape the political landscape in Misau and Dambam ahead of future elections.

Analysts believe his move may attract loyal supporters and grassroots political structures to the ADC, potentially strengthening the party’s presence in the area while posing a challenge to the PDP’s dominance in the constituency.
The former lawmaker prayed for another opportunity to serve the people.
“My prayer is that Almighty Allah will grant us another opportunity to continue serving our community,” he said.
