The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged troops of the Nigerian Army to effectively apply their training and maintain strict discipline in all operations.
Shaibu gave the directive on Friday during an operational visit to the 33 Artillery Brigade, Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi.
Addressing officers and soldiers, the COAS stressed that the success of military operations depends largely on how well personnel translate their training and knowledge into practical action in the field.
“You have been equipped with knowledge and capability, and it is important that you understand how to use them effectively. That must be clear to every one of you,” he said.
He emphasised that discipline and integrity must remain the hallmark of every soldier’s conduct, both on and off duty.
“Take pride in what you are doing. Your actions must reflect discipline and integrity, not just in words but in conduct.
Always evaluate your actions and ensure they align with your duties,” he added:
Shaibu further called on troops to uphold professionalism by ensuring accurate documentation, transparent processes and accountability in all assignments.
The army chief commended personnel serving in difficult and remote locations, noting that their dedication to duty remained a source of pride to the Nigerian Army.
He, however, cautioned that high standards must be sustained across all formations.
Highlighting operational effectiveness, Shaibu urged commanders to prioritise force protection, describing it as critical to mission success.
“Commanders at all levels must pay close attention to force protection. I repeat force protection is critical in all operations,” he said.
He also encouraged troops to remain proactive and mission-focused, noting that the evolving security environment demands alertness and decisive action.
At the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps headquartered at Obienu Barracks, the COAS reiterated the importance of leveraging training and modern equipment to tackle emerging threats.
