The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, *CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, psc* today received the Chairman of the Plateau State Youth Council (PYC), *Mr. Panan Gongdem Dapar*, and other council executives at the Police State Headquarters, Jos.
During the meeting, the Youth Council Chairman said the visit was intended to identify with the security agencies responsible for maintaining peace and stability in the State. He commended the Commissioner and his management team for their efforts in securing the State against criminal activities.
Mr. Dapar explained that one of the priorities of the current Youth Council administration is to complement the Police in stamping out crime in various communities. He dismissed the narrative that the Police are inactive, describing it as false.
The State Youth Chairman presented some of the Council’s challenges to the Commissioner and assured that youth leaders will work closely with the Police to expose criminals and reduce crime in communities.
The Chairman appealed for confidentiality whenever youth provide information to the police, in order to protect informants. He thanked the Commissioner and his team for demonstrating maturity amid false aspersions cast on the police and assured that his administration will cooperate with any stakeholder to preserve peace in the State.
In response, the Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the Youth Council for the recent loss of members in a fatal motor accident. He affirmed that the Plateau State Command will continue to work hand‑in‑hand with the Youth Council and directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to cooperate with youth leaders at the local government and district levels.
The Plateau Police boss refuted claims that the Police are unresponsive, attributing such smear campaigns to mischievous individuals seeking to destabilise the State. He highlighted several breakthroughs in the fight against crime that have not been widely publicised and noted the robust intelligence‑sharing network among security agencies in the State.
CP Adesina assured that any information received will be treated with confidentiality and warned against the provision of false or inaccurate information. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to curbing crime and ensuring peace before, during and after the festive periods. He announced that security personnel and assets have already been deployed to crime‑prone areas, a measure taken last year to enhance festive‑season security.
Finally, the Commissioner lauded the Youth Council’s inclusion of youth representatives from both Christian and Muslim faiths to address religious concerns related to peace and security.
