PICTURES: Damagum Hands Over to Turaki As PDP Chairman
Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Illiya Damagum, on Tuesday, officially handed over the party’s leadership to the newly constituted Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC). The transition marks the end of Damagum’s stewardship as the party moves into a new administrative phase.
The handover ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, comes ahead of the expiration of the former NWC’s tenure on December 8, amid an ongoing legal dispute with the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The event had in attendance several former members of the outgoing NWC who witnessed the brief but symbolic transition.
Damagum, in his remarks, said members of the new NWC carry the responsibility of stabilising and repositioning the party. He urged the Turaki-led leadership to work cohesively and ensure that the PDP regains its strength as a major political force in the country.
